synopsis
WHAT WE STOOD FOR: THE STORY OF A REVOLUTIONARY BLACK WOMAN tells the first-hand story of Deborah Jones, a Black woman shaped by a pro-Black upbringing and drawn into revolutionary organizing in Los Angeles during the 1960s and early 1970s. The book centers on the tension between liberation ideals and the harms that emerged inside the movement, including state repression and male violence that she herself became the victim of. The book follows Jones’s effort to survive, reflect, and keep pushing for justice.
objective
Revisiting history.
Our goal was to quickly establish the emotional weight of the story and signal that it is both historical and deeply personal. Introducing Deborah Jones as a powerful witness to a little-known chapter of Black Power history, conveying the conflict between revolutionary hope and betrayal, and inviting viewers to read a survivor’s account of resistance, trauma, and healing were stand out notes we further tackled.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Readers interested in Black history, civil rights, Black Power movements, feminist memoirs, and stories about activism and survival topped the list of our target audiences.
Additionally, our hope was to appeal to viewers who want firsthand accounts of overlooked historical events.
HOW WE MADE IT HAPPEN
Blending live-action footage from the era, personal photos from the subject of the memoir, sound design and motion graphics, RDV Media handled the full production to build this emotional and gritty book trailer.
